The girls

The Mawley herd, named after their home farm, Mawley Town, are predominantly home-bred pedigree Holstein and Ayrshire cows, chosen for their docile temperament and natural capacity to produce milk.  The young stock and  low-yielding cows live outdoors on our pastures during the daytime in the summer months and are housed during cold wet weather.  They are milked on an Automatic Milking System, manufactured by Fullwood in Shropshire, that allows them to chose how often they are milked, 24 hours a day!  The heifer calves join the dairy herd when they are around 2 – 3 years old and all bull calves are reared here for beef.  We grow oats, wheat, barley, maize and rye grass on our farmland to feed the cattle.

We passionately believe that happy, well cared for cows produce the best quality milk – as they say, the proof is in the pudding!  Our cows are cared for by a team of expert herdsmen who have a wealth of experience in cow care and animal husbandry.
